Entuity allows you to undertake the following firmware configuration tasks:
- Firmware Upload - This task checks and prepare the device for upload, then use a transfer method to copy the image to the device.
- Firmware Update - This task requires Firmware Upload as a prerequisite and will fail if the previous Firmware Upload task was not run. This provides a warning to the user before proceeding. After successfully updating the firmware, the device will restart.
- Firmware Backup - This uses the transfer method to copy the running firmware to the transfer folder (before Entuity v20.0 P02)/firmware repository (after Entuity v20.0 P02). This task provides a warning to the user before proceeding. Failure during the pre-update checks will cancel this update.
You must have the Configuration Management Firmware permission in order to undertake these tasks. Please see this article for help and information on user permissions in Entuity.
To upload firmware to a device:
- Navigate to the device for which you want to upload firmware, and right click to open the Context Menu. Click Configuration Management -> Firmware Upload.
- This opens the Parameters form, wherein you can specify the parameters of your preferred firmware.
- Complete the fields in this form as you wish:
- Apply Regex filter to imageName - If On, filtered images will appear in the Firmware Image. This is Off by default.
- imageName (Filename) - A list in the dropdown field from which you can select a firmware image in the Firmware Repository. By default this will be filtered based on the selected devices' type (e.g. Router) and model. If multiple devices are selected then the filters will need to apply to them all.
- Click Save. The firmware upload will then install, and the device will be restarted. A message will appear at the top of the screen to confirm the successful submission, and you can click the link to navigate directly to the Device Configuration Management page for this device.
To update firmware on a device:
Before updating firmware, you will first need to have uploaded the firmware. If you attempt to update firmware without first having uploaded it, the task will fail.
- Navigate to the device for which you want to update firmware, and right click to open the Context Menu. Click Configuration Management -> Firmware Update.
- A Confirm Execution dialog will appear. Click Yes to proceed with the update.
- The firmware update will then install, and then the device will be restarted. A message will appear at the top of the screen to confirm the successful submission, and you can click the link to navigate directly to the Device Configuration Management page for this device.
To back up firmware on a device:
- Navigate to the device for which you want to back up firmware, and right click to open the Context Menu. Click Configuration Management -> Firmware Backup.
- A Confirm Execution dialog will appear. Click Yes to proceed with the backup.
- The firmware backup will then install. A message will appear at the top of the screen to confirm the successful submission, and you can click the link to navigate directly to the Device Configuration Management page for this device.
To view the status and history of firmware management tasks:
You can view the status and history of firmware management tasks from the Device Configuration Management page. This page can be accessed from three locations:
- in Main Menu > Administration > Configuration Management > History. Each completed or running job is a separate row in the task history table. Select your preferred job and click Details to view a summary of each sub-job.
- After submitting a job, Entuity displays an information dialog at the top of the page that includes a link to the History tab. If you click on the link, it opens the History tab and displays only that newly submitted job.
- Under the Tasks tab and Schedule tab, click History to display a history of the tasks and scheduled jobs respectively.
