To search for a connected host
To view further information on a search result
You can search for managed objects such as devices and ports across multiple Entuity servers.
To search for a device or port:
- Click the Search icon in the top right of the browser.
- The Search form will slide in on the right. You can complete as few or as many fields as you want. At any time you can press Enter or click Begin in the top right of the form to begin the search.
- Enter the name of the managed object you want to search for in the Search field. You can enter the whole name or part of the name, with as few as one character.
- Select which type of managed object you are searching for in the Type dropdown field, one of Devices, Ports, Connected Hosts, All Objects. Note, if you select Connected Hosts, please see the section below for further help.
- Select the View in which you want to search in the View dropdown field.
- Specify the logic used for the search in the Match using fields:
- Regular expression - if this switch is turned on, you can use regular expressions that are POSIX compliant in your search term. For example, to search for:
- a device called century, enter the search term: century
- all devices not called century, enter the search term: [^century]
- devices called century or compressor, enter the search term: century|compressor
- devices with cent as part of their name, enter the search term: cent+
- Whole attribute - if this switch is turned on, search results will exactly match your search term.
- Case sensitive - if this switch is turned on, search results will exactly match the casing of your search term.
- Regular expression - if this switch is turned on, you can use regular expressions that are POSIX compliant in your search term. For example, to search for:
- Click the Advanced field to open the Advanced form. This has different fields depending on whether you have specified Devices or Ports in the Type field. Click Done in the top right of the form to complete the Advanced fields, otherwise click Cancel.
- for devices, you have the following fields to complete:
Field Name Field Description Device Criteria Type type of device, e.g. Base Station Device, Firewall Device, Any. Model device model. IP Address IP address used to poll the device. Location device's physical location. Manufacturer device's manufacturer. Port Criteria Type type of device interface, e.g. Frame Relay Port, WAN Port, Any. IANA Type description of the interface type, e.g. ethernet6. Speed is select the preferred logical operator for the Speed (bits/s) field, e.g. ==, >=, >. Speed (bits/s) interface speed. This field will only appear when you have made a selection in the Speed is field. - for ports, you have the following fields to complete:

To disregard this search field, click Any. Fast status polling enable or disable searching for ports by their fast status polling state. To disregard this search field, click Any.
- for devices, you have the following fields to complete:
To search for a connected host:
- In the Type dropdown field of the Search form, select Connected Hosts. The search form differs when Connected Hosts is selected rather than Devices or Ports.
- If you are entering a host name or IP address in the Search field at the top of the form, you must enter a full host name or IP address - there is no partial match for connected hosts.
- You can also search for a connected host by its MAC address. You do this by entering the MAC address in the Search field, in the following format: AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF. MAC addresses are hexadecimal and can be either upper or lower case, e.g.: 00:0d:83:b1:c0:8e.
- Select the View in which you want to search in the View dropdown field.
- Select the zone to which the connected host is assigned in the Zone dropdown field.
- Specify how far back you want the search results to go via the Current connections only switch. When switched on, search will only find devices that have been seen in the last 24 hours. When switched off, search will look back a week.
The Search results page:
When you have clicked Begin, the Search results page will open. This displays a table of the search results based upon your search parameters. The columns available are as follows:

Context | details of the managed object, e.g. Polled IP Address, Community String, System Object Identifier. |

To refine a search:
- On the Search results page, click Refine in the top right of the browser or via the Overflow Menu.
- This will reopen the Search form. Change your search parameters and click Begin to start a new search, otherwise click Cancel to return to the previous Search results page.
To view further information on a search result:
- Click on a managed object in the search results to open its Summary dashboard (or highest-placed favourite dashboard).
- Right click on a managed object in the search results to open its context menu and perform further actions. For example, you might want to deactivate fast status polling on a subset of ports. You would search for ports with fast polling enabled, and from the search results highlight the ports on which you want to deactivate fast polling. Right click to open the context menu and click Fast Status Polling, then Disable.
