To create a static threshold or a dynamic threshold
You can configure static and dynamic thresholds that, when crossed, cause Entuity to raise events. Dynamic thresholds enable Entuity to alert the user to deviations from previous normal behavior for that time period.
Entuity establishes normal behavior for a given attribute on a given port by maintaining the last four weeks' worth of polled data, and applying an averaging algorithm.
You can set thresholds against:
- an individual event.
- a managed object or View.
- all objects on an Entuity server.
To view a static threshold or a dynamic threshold:
- Navigate to your desired managed object or View and open its Thresholds dashboard. Note, to see the thresholds for your entire network, please select the 'All Objects' View and then open the its Thresholds dashboard. You can also right click on your desired managed object anywhere in the UI to open its Context Menu, and click Threshold Settings to open its Thresholds dashboard. You can also select multiple managed objects, right click to open their Context Menu and click Threshold Settings to open the Thresholds for multiple items page. Here you can view, set and edit thresholds across multiple objects.
- Change the value in the Thresholds Related To: dropdown menu to change the threshold type that is displayed in the table.
To enable a static threshold:
- Navigate to your desired managed object or View and open its Thresholds dashboard.
- Select a threshold from the table. In the Overflow Menu or at the top of the dashlet, click Set Override.
- The Set Override form will slide in on the right. In the Value field, select the threshold value you want. Switch the Enabled field on.
- Click Done to save your changes, otherwise click Cancel.
To set a system-level threshold, open the Thresholds dashboard for the All Objects View and follow the above instructions.
To enable a dynamic threshold:
By default, all dynamic thresholds are turned off.
- Navigate to your desired managed object or View and open its Thresholds dashboard.
- Select a dynamic threshold from the table. Dynamic thresholds will have the suffix '(Dynamic)'.
- In the Overflow Menu or at the top of the dashlet, click Set Override.
- The Set Override form will slide in on the right.
- In the Tolerance field, specify the absolute value above the baseline that you want. Note, this value is not a percentage of the baseline.
- e.g. if the baseline is 10 and you set a tolerance of 20, then the threshold at which Entuity will raise an event is 30.
- To enable the dynamic threshold, click the slider in the Enabled field. By enabling an dynamic threshold, you are overriding the default setting for dynamic thresholds, which is off.
- Click Done to save your changes, otherwise click Cancel.
You can see an attribute's dynamic threshold baseline by selecting the attribute in the table on the Thresholds dashboard and then clicking Show Dynamic Threshold Baseline above the table. This opens a chart that shows the historic baseline over a data period of up to 4 weeks.
The port-level dynamic thresholds, which can be applied at device and port level, are as follows:
- Port High Inbound Utilization (Dynamic)
- Port High Outbound Utilization (Dynamic)
- Port Low Inbound Utilization (Dynamic)
- Port Low Outbound Utilization (Dynamic)
- Port High Inbound Fault (Dynamic)
- Port High Outbound Fault (Dynamic)
- Port High Inbound Discards (Dynamic)
- Port High Outbound Discards (Dynamic).
To disable an enabled static threshold or a dynamic threshold:
- Navigate to your desired managed object or View and open its Thresholds dashboard. You can also right click on your desired managed object anywhere in the UI to open its Context Menu, and click Threshold Settings to open its Thresholds dashboard. You can also select multiple managed objects, right click to open their Context Menu and click Threshold Settings to open the Thresholds for multiple items page. - The threshold will then be switched off, and its value in the Enabled column will change to 'No'.
To remove an override from a static threshold or a dynamic threshold:
- Navigate to your desired managed object or View and open its Thresholds dashboard. You can also right click on your desired managed object anywhere in the UI to open its Context Menu, and click Threshold Settings to open its Thresholds dashboard. You can also select multiple managed objects, right click to open their Context Menu and click Threshold Settings to open the Thresholds for multiple items page. Here you can remove thresholds across multiple objects.
- Select a dynamic threshold from the table. In the Overflow Menu, click Remove Override.
- The override will then be removed, and its value in the Overriden column will change to 'No'.
To create a static threshold or a dynamic threshold:
This can only be done for a user defined attribute. This is done when creating a user defined attribute. Please see the section To create a custom threshold and status for a user defined attribute for help and information on creating a custom threshold.
