Applicable to Entuity v19.0 upwards. If you are using an earlier version of Entuity, please see this article.
To duplicate a discovery profile
You can use Auto Discovery to discover devices on your network and add them to management. Auto Discovery is most useful when you have many devices, or a potentially unknown set of devices, to manage.
This can be configured to continually scan your network, so that you always have an up-to-date, detailed inventory of network assets.
Individual discovery profiles allow you to specify the parameters of the Auto Discovery.
Note, the Discovery Scope functionality replaces the import devices via a device file (seed file) from earlier versions of Entuity.
To create a discovery profile:
Navigate to the Discovered Assets page. Click Create Discovery at the top of the page or via the Overflow Menu.
This will open the New Discovery form on the right of the page. This form consists of the following sections:
- General
- Discovery Scope
- Credentials
- Schedule
- Asset Onboarding
- Associated Asset Onboarding
- Advanced Settings
General
- Enter a Name and Description for the discovery profile.
Discovery Scope
Note, the Discovery Scope functionality replaces the import devices via a device file (seed file) from earlier versions of Entuity.
- Specify the Zone in which to scan your specified IP address range. Please see this section for further help and information on Zones in Entuity.
- In the Addresses field, specify the device, range of IP addresses and/or IP subnets, or the hostnames for Auto Discovery to use when identifying devices for ENA to take under management. In the Exclusions field, specify those to exclude. You can include multiple rows of addresses, and on each row you can enter:
- A range of IP addresses, specifying the From and To values.
- An IP address or device name.
- An IP subnet, specifying the Prefix and Netmask values.
From Entuity v19.0 P02 onwards, if you do not specify an address range for the discovery profile, the discovery will simply use the local network.
Note for users upgrading to Entuity v19.0 regarding IP subnets and masks: In ENA v18.0 and below, when specifying subnets using masks, the syntax was as follows:
e.g. 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0, whereby the part after / is the mask.
In Entuity v19.0 and above, the syntax is as follows:
e.g. 192.168.1.0@255.255.255.0, whereby the part after @ is the mask.
When upgrading to Entuity v19.0, existing auto discovery profiles are not currently converted from / to @ and so will fail. This is will be fixed in Entuity v19.0 P02, so that users will not need to re-enter IP addresses again.
In Entuity v19.0, it is also possible to use a mask length instead of a mask. This uses a / , and the syntax in the above example would be:
192.168.1.0/24
Credentials
- Specify if you want to use all credentials, or specify an individual credential.
- If switched off, you can click the Credential field to specify the credentials to use. This will open the Credential form, from where you can either add + a new credential, or select one from the list. Please see article for help and information on creating a credential.
Schedule
- Specify a schedule for when the profile will run. If switched on, you can specify the day and hour on which the profile will run.
Asset Onboarding
- Specify if you want to Automatically Manage Discovered Assets. By default, this field is switched off.
- If switched on, you can then specify the management parameters:
- Management Level
- Port Management
- Display Name
- Poll Using
- If switched on, you can then specify if the assets are to be added directly to a View. If so, you can search for the desired View by clicking the View Path field.
Associated Asset Onboarding
- Specify if you want to Automatically Manage Associated Assets. Associated assets are the VM/SD/AP devices associated with a VM platform or other type of controller.
Advanced Settings
- Click the Advanced field to open the Advanced form.
General
- Switch on Allow Duplicate IPs if you want to add devices where some, but not all, configured IP address-to-port mappings were already seen on another device. This test is done during discovery between devices currently being discovered and if mappings are identical, then the latter device will be ignored. If not ticked, then the previous behaviour remains, where only a single configured IP address is used to make this decision that results in devices more readily being ignored.
- If you switch on Allow Management IP, Entuity looks at all IPs bound to a device and selects the management IP address to be used. If enabled, Entuity will check that the management IP can be accessed via SNMP.
Host Detection
- In the TCP Port List field, specify the list of ports that Entuity will probe to decide whether the port is up.
SNMP
- Specify if you want Entuity to Perform SNMP Discovery. By default, this is switched on.
- In the SNMP Port List field, specify on which port the device's SNMP agent will receive its requests. By default, this is set to the default UDP port 161.
- In the Excluded SysOid list field, specify the system object identifiers of devices that Entuity should not manage. The default excluded SysOids are as follows:
- 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.2 Windows Server
- 1.3.6.1.4.1.2.3.1.2.1.1.3 IBM PowerPC Personal Computer
- 1.3.6.1.4.1.8072.3.2.10 Net-SNMP Agent 5.1
- 1.3.6.1.4.1.8072.3.2.3 Solaris NetSNMP
- 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.1 Windows Workstation
- 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.3 Windows Domain Controller
- 1.3.6.1.4.1.42.2.1.1 Solaris Server
Through discovery.HostNameFormat in entuity.cfg you can amend the device name format used by Entuity. By default Entuity attempts to poll a device using the qualified DNS device name, then an unqualified DNS device name and only then the device IP address.
WinRM
- Specify if you want Entuity to perform WinRM discovery. From Entuity v21.0 upwards, this is by default switched off.
- If enabled, specify the list of ports on which WinRM discovery will be performed.
SSH
- Specify if you want Entuity to perform SSH discovery. From Entuity v21.0 upwards, this is by default switched off.
- If enabled, specify the list of ports on which SSH discovery will be performed.
Server Hardware Discovery
- Specify whether to enable server hardware discovery, and types you want to discover. From Entuity v21.0 upwards, this is by default switched off. Please see this article for further help and information on server discovery in Entuity.
Server OS Discovery
- Specify whether to enable server OS discovery, and the types you want to discover. From Entuity v21.0 upwards, this is by default switched off. Please see this article for further help and information on server discovery in Entuity.
Storage Discovery
- Specify whether to enable storage discovery, and the types you want to discover. From Entuity v21.0 upwards, this is by default switched off. Please see this article for further help and information on storage device discovery in Entuity.
Server and Storage
- Specify the port numbers with REST API support. By default, this is 80, 443.
To edit a discovery profile:
- Select a discovery profile from the list and click Edit Discovery at the top of page, or via the Overflow Menu or Context Menu.
- This will open the Edit Discovery form, which contains the same fields and parameters as the New Discovery form.
- Once you have made your desired changes, click Done at the top right of the form, otherwise click Cancel.
To duplicate a discovery profile:
- Select a discovery profile from the list and click Duplicate Discovery from the Overflow Menu or Context Menu.
- The duplicate will appear below the original discovery profile, with the name [Profile Name] (copy). You can then edit this duplicate and change the name as you desire.
To delete a discovery profile:
- Select the discovery profile from the list that you want to delete, and click Delete Discovery from the Overflow Menu or Context Menu.
- A confirmation window will appear asking you to confirm your action.
