To create an SNMP community string or user account
Configuration details to specify when adding the asset to Entuity
Entuity supports hardware monitoring on Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) C-Series, S-Series, and Business Edition servers through the Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) SNMP Agent. Entuity discovers the enclosure, processors, PCI cards, disks, memory, power supplies among other internal components, as well as various environmental sensors. To do so, the Entuity collector uses port 161 (which must be open bidirectionally between the Entuity server/agent and the Cisco CIMC SNMP Agent), the CIMC IP address, and an SNMP community string or user account.
Supported devices
- Cisco UCS C-Series Rack Servers M1 – M8
- Cisco UCS S-Series Rack Servers M1 – M8
- Cisco UCS Business Edition 6000M M4 Servers
To create an SNMP community string or user account:
- Log into the CIMC web interface with administrator-level credentials and navigate to Admin > Communication Services > SNMP.
- Expand the SNMP Properties section of the page.
- Select the SNMP Enabled checkbox, and enter 161 in the SNMP Port field.
- For SNMPv3, skip to the next step. Otherwise, for SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c, enter a read-only community string in the Access Community String field, and select Limited from the SNMP Community Access drop-down field.
- For SNMPv3, create an SNMP user account:
- In the User Settings section of the page, click Add User.
- Configure the user account for read-only access, and fill out the following fields, as applicable:
- no auth, no priv – does not need authorization nor privacy password.
- auth, no priv – requires only authorization password and protocol.
- auth, priv – requires both authorization and privacy passwords and protocols.
- Select OK and click Save Changes.
Configuration details to specify when adding the asset to Entuity
When you add the server to Entuity from the Asset Management page, specify the following information on the Add Asset form:
- In the Management Level section, select Server from the Asset Category drop-down field, and Cisco UCS from the Asset Type drop-down field.
- In the Asset Details section, enter the CIMC IP address in the Polled Name/IP Address field.
- In the Hardware Monitoring section, select Cisco UCS CIMC Manager (SNMP) from the Connection Method drop-down field.
- On the Credential form (accessed by clicking the Credential field in the Hardware Monitoring section), select the appropriate SNMP version from the Credential Type drop-down field, and then enter either the newly created community string (SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c) or the newly created user account (SNMPv3) name and password in the appropriate fields.
