Applicable to Entuity v21.0 upwards
To create a new Topology Group
Introduction:
A Topology Group must contain at least two servers. Beyond this, a Topology Group can have the following variables:
- a server can appear in multiple Topology Groups.
- the servers in a Topology Group can also contain the consolidation server, if required, when the consolidation server is used to poll devices.
To create a new Topology Group:
Topology Groups are only created on the server that you are logged in to.
- Navigate to the Topology Group Management page (Main Menu > Administration > Topology Group Management).
- Ensure you are under the Groups tab.
- Click Create at the top of the page (or via the Overflow Menu).
- The Create Group form will open.
- Specify a Name for the Topology Group. This must not be the same as any other Topology Group.
- Specify a Description if you wish.
- Specify whether if the Topology Group is Enabled. If set to On, a discovery job will be scheduled to run every 10 minutes by default. The discovery job uses topology data from each server to discover links and check changes to existing links.
- Select the servers that you wish to include in the Topology Group. You must select at least two servers, and you can select the consolidation server amongst them.
- Click Done in the top right to save, otherwise click Cancel.
To edit a Topology Group:
If you remove a server from a Topology Group, the discovered links for that server will be removed from the that group.
- Navigate to the Topology Group Management page and select the Topology Group you wish to edit.
- Click Edit at the top of the page (or via the Overflow Menu or right-click Context Menu).
- The Edit Group form will open on the right, and will contain the same fields as when creating a Topology Group (see above).
- Make your desired changes and click Done in the top right to save, otherwise click Cancel.
To delete a Topology Group:
When you delete a Topology Group, all the discovered multi server links within that group will be automatically removed. The same links discovered by other groups will not be affected.
- Navigate to the Topology Group Management page and select the Topology Group you wish to delete.
- Click Delete at the top of the page (or via the Overflow Menu or right-click Context Menu).
- A confirmation dialog will appear.
If a remote server is not contactable when either it is removed from a group, or that group is deleted, then any links discovered for that Topology Group will be left on that remote server. You can remove these links manually by logging into the remote server directly and deleting the server from the Central Servers tab of the Multi-Server Configuration page.
