To discover multi-server links within a Topology Group:
The multi-server links within a Topology Group are discovered by discovery jobs, which are either scheduled to run once per day (at about 15 minutes after midnight) if a Topology Group is enabled or can be run manually (again for 'enabled' Topology Groups).
To view multi-server links within a Topology Group:
- Navigate to the Topology Group Management page.
- Under the Groups tab, select the group for which you want to view links, and then click the Links tab.
- The Links tab will open, which shows all the currently discovered links for the selected group. This page is read-only.
The table under this tab details the following information:
Column | Description |
---|---|
Name | name of the link, system-generated from the group ID, link type, server ID and object IDs involved. Column hidden by default. |
Description | system-generated description of the link, detailing which groups the link is in. Column hidden by default. |
Discovery By | central/consolidation server that discovered the link. Column hidden by default. |
Group | system-generated group ID of the group that this link is on. Column hidden by default. |
Type |
type of link, from the following:
|
From Server | originating server of the link. |
From Device | originating device of the link |
From Interface | originating interface/port of the link. |
To Server | destination server of the link. |
To Device | destination device of the link. |
To Interface | destination device of the link. |
Created At | timestamp of the link's first discovery. Column hidden by default. |
Last Updated At | timestamp at which the link was last seen during a discovery. |
Last Updated By | user (or 'System' if via scheduled discovery) who last ran a discovery job that discovered this link. |
From Servers | the servers from which data is retrieved for this link. This will usually be the 'from server' and 'to server. Column hidden by default. |
To view multi-server links on a topological map:
Once a Topology Group is set up and a topology discovery job is successfully run, you will be able to see the above-specified links between devices on different servers when accessing a Topological Map for a View that contains one or more of the devices that have been discovered in the topology discovery job. You will not need to make any changes to your Topological Map to see these links - these links will be automatically included.
For example, you might create and save a Topological Group containing Pollers 1, 2 and 3. Then, when you open a Topological Map - displaying the types of links specified above - for a View containing devices that are connected to other devices on Pollers 1, 2 or 3, those links and devices will automatically appear on the Topological Map.
