Entuity distinguishes between physical and virtual ports by using their interface type, and then comparing it to a list of types that Entuity recognizes as physical ports. For certain port types, e.g. Frame Relay, collectors are then used to gather more information to distinguish between virtual and physical ports.
The distinction between virtual and physical ports is important when calculating spare ports, i.e. you do not want to identify a virtual port as spare.
There may be occasions where the default configuration wrongly identifies the port's physical/virtual status:
- When this occurs for a small number of ports, you can manually set the ports' Classification attribute to the correct value.
- When this occurs for a port type, then the configuration file can be amended to correctly identify the port type. Please contact Entuity Support to discuss configuration modification.
