To add a Map dashlet to a custom dashboard
To switch between topological mode and geographical mode
The Map dashlet shows you a topology display of the Subviews and managed objects in a View. From ENA v18.0 upwards, you can also enable a geographical map display of Views and the Subviews within them. Accordingly, the Map dashlet can be used in either of the following modes in ENA v18.0 upwards:
The Map dashlet is only applicable to Views and Subviews. It is not applicable to any other data source (e.g. devices, services, components etc).
For help and information on using the Map dashboard, please see this article.
To add a Map dashlet to a custom dashboard:
- When adding a dashlet to a new custom dashboard or editing an existing custom dashboard, follow the instructions for adding a dashlet, select Map in the Select Dashlet Type, and click Next.
- The Create Dashlet form will slide in on the right.
Dashlet Settings
-
- Enter a name of your dashlet in the Name field.
- You can then choose the source of the data to be displayed in the map.
The Map dashlet can only display data where the source is a View.
- If you want this dashlet to source its data from the context of its parent dashboard, select Dashboard. You can see the context of the parent dashboard in the Dashboard Context field at the top of the form.
- If you want this dashlet to source its data from another dashlet in this current dashboard, select Dashlet.
- If you want this dashlet to source its data from a specific View on your network, select Fixed Object. You can then click Browse to an object to search for the View in Explorer, or drag into the box your desired View in from another browser window.
- Topological Map Settings
- Note, these settings can also be changed from the dashlet itself.
-
- Select whether you want the map to have a Status or Utilization overlay in the Map Overlay field.
- Select whether you want the map to highlight a View, service or network path, or none in the Map Highlight field.
- Select the links you want to display on the map in the Map Links field.
- Click the Topological Map Labels field to select any attribute labels you want to appear on the map for each icon:
- Clicking this field will take you to the Topological Map Labels form, which lists the labels you have currently assigned to this map and where you can click + Add Label. In the Add Label form, select the attribute you want to display as a label on the map from the Attribute dropdown field, and click Done.
- On the Topological Map Labels form, any attributes you have selected will be listed. Click on an attribute to open its Configure Label form, where you can choose whether to display the label inline on the map, as a hover-over tooltip, or both. You can also delete the label using this form.
- Geographical Map Settings
- Note, geographical maps are only available from ENA v18.0 onwards, and these options are only visible when you have enabled geographical maps via the administration.
-
- Specify if you want show the geographical map as default (instead of the topological map) by turning the Show Geographical Map as default switch to on.
- Specify if you want to cluster together markers that are close to one another on the map into a single marker by turning the Cluster markers on the map switch to on. This will keep the map clear and clean in cases where there might be many View markers, which at certain zoom levels might be difficult to individually identify. If switched on, markers that are close to one another on the map will cluster until you have zoomed in close enough for there to be enough space for the markers to be displayed separately. If switched off, markers on the map will not cluster at any zoom level. Please see this article for further information on clustering of View markers.
- Whichever clustering setting you specify here will be persistent through the dashboard. E.g, if you switch it to on here, you can still later switch off the setting in the dashboard Overflow Menu. However, if you navigate away from and then back to the Map, the clustering will return to being switched on.
- Select whether you want the map to have a Status or Utilization overlay in the Map Overlay field.
- Select the links you want to display on the map in the Links field.
- Specify the Marker Pulsing Settings. Please see this article for help on this.
- Specify the Marker Color Settings. Please see this article for help on this.

- Choose whether you want the dashlet to automatically refresh in the Auto Refresh field. By default this is set to On.

Maps and permissions:
A map is a visual representation of a View. The permissions you have on a map are the same that you have on the View:
- administrators have full read, save and edit permissions.
- non-administrators' access is determined by the level of permission you have to the View.
