As of Entuity v21.0 P03, Entuity supports the inventory and status polling of the following storage assets:

Entuity storage monitoring raises events when monitored storage assets are found to be in a sub-optimal state or are missing. These events contain all relevant details regarding the nature of the failure and all known inventory information about the asset.

Storage performance monitoring:

Entuity supports performance monitoring for the following storage devices, which draws on the data collected by Entuity's storage hardware monitoring functionality:

  • DataDomain SNMP
  • Dell EMC VNX
  • Dell EMC VNXe
  • Dell Isilon
  • NetApp
  • Pure Storage

The following Summary dashboards are available to view particular metrics:

  • Storage Summary (view level) - displays a summary of all managed storage devices.
  • Storage Device Summary
  • Storage Pool Summary
  • Volume Summary
  • LUN Summary
  • Physical Disk Summary

The hierarchy of storage performance monitoring is as follows:

  • Storage devices contain a number of physical disks.
  • Groups of physical disks are assigned to storage pools (RAID or non-RAID).
  • Each storage pool is divided into one or more volumes and LUNs (thick or thin).
  • Each LUN is exported as a single-block transfer endpoint (e.g. iSCSI target).
  • Each volume is exported by one or more shares (NFS/SMB/CIFS)

 

 

Storage performance metrics collected:

Storage devices:

  • CPU usage (%)
  • Memory usage (%)
  • Raw disk capacity (polled or aggregated)
  • Raw disk used / free (polled or aggregated)
  • Raw disk used %
  • Read/Write/Total IOPs (polled or aggregated)
  • Read/Write/Total MBps (polled or aggregated)
  • Usable capacity (sum of storage pools)
  • (Max + average of latency for disks on this device)
  • Read: Write IOPS ratio (polled or aggregated)

Physical disks:

  • Read / Write / Total IOPs
  • Read / Write / Total MBps
  • IOSize
  • Used Capacity
  • Used Capacity %
  • (Latency)
  • (Soft/hard error count)

Storage Pools:

  • Name
  • Status
  • Raw capacity
  • Consumed capacity
  • Available capacity
  • User/logical capacity
  • Capacity - total subscribed/provisional /oversubscribed
  • Read/Write/Total OPs (polled or aggregated)
  • Read/Write/Total MBps (polled or aggregated)
  • IOSize - Read/Write/Total - (polled or aggregated)
  • Max + average of latency for disks in this storage pool
  • % full
  • Summary: LUN count
  • Summary: volume count
  • Summary: share count
  • Summary: disk count
  • Soft/hard error count (polled or aggregated)
  • Type of storage pool (incl RAID type if applicable)

LUNs:

  • Name (if not present, use endpoint/UUID)
  • Endpoint/UUID
  • Type (thick/thin/free)
  • Protocol (e.g. iSCSI, FC, FCoE)
  • Total size
  • Size allocated on the filesystem
  • Size used on the filesystem
  • Provisioned size (thin only)
  • Provisioned used (thin only)
  • Provisioned used (%)
  • Read-only or read-write
  • Mapped: true/false
  • Read/Write/Total IOPs (polled or aggregated)
