To create an SNMP community string or user account
Configuration details to specify when adding the asset to Entuity
Entuity supports hardware monitoring on Dell EMC servers, storage appliances, and Hyper-converged infrastructure with iDRAC7 or later through Dell's iDRAC Management card using SNMP. Entuity discovers the enclosure, controllers, batteries, memory, disks, logical disks, fans, power supplies, processors, and various environmental sensors for each system. To do so, the Entuity collector uses port 161 (which must be open bidirectionally between the Entuity server/agent and the Dell EMC with iDRAC system) and an SNMP community string or user account.
Supported devices
- Dell PowerEdge Servers (R, T, M, and C Series) 14th–17th Generation
- Dell PowerEdge Servers (XE Series) 14th–16th Generation
- Dell PowerVault NX Series
- Dell PowerProtect DD Series
- Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes
- Dell VxRail 12th–16th Generation
To create an SNMP community string or user account:
- Log into the iDRAC web interface with administrator-level privileges, and navigate to iDRAC Settings > Network > Services or iDRAC Settings > Service, depending on the generation.
- In the SNMP Agent section, select the checkbox to enable SNMP or choose Enable from the dropdown menu.
- For SNMPv3, skip to the next step. Otherwise, for SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c, do the following:
- Select All from the SNMP Protocol section/dropdown menu.
- Enter an SNMP Community name. The default is public.
- Ensure that 161 is in the SNMP Discovery Port Number field, and then click Apply.
- For SNMPv3, do the following:
- Select SNMP v3 from the SNMP Protocol section/dropdown menu.
- Ensure that 161 is in the SNMP Discovery Port Number field, and then click Apply.
- From iDRAC Settings, navigate to either User Authentication > Local Users or Users > Local Users, depending on the generation.
- To create a user account, click Add or click the next available User ID, and then enter a username and password for the account.
- Select Operator as the User Role, and select Enabled next to SNMP v3.
- Choose the authentication and privacy types, as applicable.
If using a privacy type on newer generations, enable the passphrase and complete the authentication and privacy passphrase fields. - Click Save or Apply to save changes.
Configuration details to specify when adding the asset to Entuity
When you add the server to Entuity from the Asset Management page, specify the following information on the Add Asset form:
- In the Management Level section, select Server from the Asset Category drop-down field, and Dell PowerEdge / VxRail from the Asset Type drop-down field.
- In the Asset Details section, enter the iDRAC IP address in the Polled Name/IP Address field.
- In the Hardware Monitoring section, select Dell iDRAC (SNMP) from the Connection Method drop-down field.
- On the Credential form (accessed by clicking the Credential field in the Hardware Monitoring section), enter either the newly created community string (SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c) or the newly created user account (SNMPv3) name and password in the appropriate fields.
