To manually run a path discovery
To create path discovery in my network:
- In the Main Menu, click Administration.
- Click Application Path Discovery. This opens the Application Path Discovery page.
- Under the Paths tab, click Add in the bottom left of the browser.
- This opens the Create Path window. Enter the name you want to give the path in the Name field.
- Enter a description or purpose of the path in the Description field.
- Enter the IPv4 address or host name of the source device in the Source field.
- Enter the zone in which the source device is located in the Source Zone field.
- Enter the IPv4 address or host name of the destination device in the Destination field.
- Enter the zone in which the destination device is located in the Destination Zone field.
- Choose the schedule of path discovery from the Discovery Schedule dropdown field.
- Click OK to save, otherwise click Cancel.
To edit a path:
- Navigate to the Path tab on the Application Path Discovery page.
- Select the path that you want to edit and click Edit in the bottom left of the browser.
- The Edit Path window will open. When you have made the changes you want, click OK to save, otherwise click Cancel.
To delete a path:
- Navigate to the Path tab on the Application Path Discovery page.
- Select the path that you want to delete and click Delete in the bottom left of the browser.
- A deletion confirmation window will open. Click Yes to confirm or No to cancel. Note, deleting a path will remove all the discovered path details.
To view path details:
- Navigate to the Path tab on the Application Path Discovery page.
- Select the path for which you want to view the details and click View Details at the bottom of the browser.
- This will open the Summary dashboard for the path, containing the Path Discovery dashlet. This dashlet displays a topological map of the path's route from the source device to the destination device, and provides details for the devices in the path and the links between them. Please see the Path Discovery dashlet article for further help about the information you can view on that page.
To view path history:
SurePath retains the history of a path for eight days.
- Navigate to the Path tab on the Application Path Discovery page.
- Select the path for which you want to view the history and click View History at the bottom of the browser.
- This will open the Path History page for the selected path. This page has a table displaying the details of the path.
- You can sort the table columns into ascending and descending order by clicking on the column headings. You can also increase or decrease the width of the columns by dragging from the dividing line between each column.
- To show all the recorded history, untick the Show Changes Only box at the bottom of the browser.
- To view further details on the path at a particular time and date in its history, select the row at the desired time and click View Details at the bottom of the page. This will open the Summary dashboard for the selected path, with the Path Discovery dashlet displaying a topological map of the path at the selected time and date.
The columns are as follows:
Column Name | Column Description |

Timestamp | time and date of the path discovery. |
Source | source device. |
Destination | destination device. |
Duration(ms) | duration of the discovery process. |
Depth | minimum number of hops between the source and destination devices for the path. |
Hop Count | total number of discovered hops between the source and destination devices. |
Server Count | number of servers managing devices on the path. |
To view the path capacity history:
- Navigate to the Path tab on the Application Path Discovery page.
- Select the path for which you want to view the capacity history and click View Capacity History at the bottom of the browser.
- This will open the Spare Capacity window, showing the actual spare capacity and reference spare capacity for the path, if applicable.
To manually run a path discovery:
- Navigate to the Path tab on the Application Path Discovery page.
- Select the path for which you want to run discovery and click Run Discovery at the bottom of the browser. The path discovery will then run.
