Applicable to Entuity v22.0 upwards. If you are using an earlier version of Entuity, please see this article.
If Entuity is not managing overlapping IP addresses on your network, then you will not need to configure zones. This is the default state, and in this state devices are specified as 'None' in the Zone column of the Managed Assets page.
Zones are defined on a per-server basis, i.e. Zone-1 on server A is a distinct entity to Zone-1 on server B.
Note, you must set routing information and custom DNS settings in Entuity, to allow an Entuity server to utilize multiple VPNs even if the IP addresses within them may not be unique.
To add a zone:
- In the Main Menu, click Administration.
- Click Zones to open the Zones page.
- Click Add Zone at the top of the page (or via the Overflow Menu).
- This will open the Add Zone form on the right of the page.
- Zone Name - specify a name of the zone.
- Description - specify a description for the zone.
- IPv4 Interface - click the field to select from the pre-populated interface IP addresses for IPv4, or add a new address via Add IPv4 Address.
- IPv6 interface - click the field to select from the pre-populated interface IP addresses for IPv4, or add a new address via Add IPv4 Address.
- Add DNS Server - click to specify the IPv4 address of the DNS server that you wish to add. Once added, the DNS server will be listed below. To remove a DNS server, select it and click Remove. You can configure multiple DNS servers for a zone, but you must not mix IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. The Entuity DNS client directs host and reverse lookup requests to the specified DNS server. To improve performance, the client caches responses.
- Domain Suffix - specify the domain suffix you want to use to identify the domain name.
- Device Name Prefix - specify the prefix to add to the name of each device in the zone. The prefix can have a maximum of 5 characters.
- Host File to Use - select the host file to use for the zone from the dropdown field. Host files for each zone can be included from entuity_home\etc\hostfiles on the Entuity server. They are the same format as the operating system's host file.
- Click Done to save your changes, otherwise click Cancel.
A zone's IP address interface is used to identify and direct network traffic.
To edit a zone:
- Select your preferred zone and click Edit Zone at the top of the page (or via the Overflow Menu or right-click Context Menu). This will open the Edit Zone form on the right of the page (which is the same as the Add Zone form), where you can make the changes you would like to the zone configuration.
- Click OK to save the zone configuration.
To remove a zone:
Note, you cannot remove a zone if there are devices using the zone.
- Select your preferred zone and click Remove Zone from the Overflow Menu or right-click Context Menu.
- A deletion confirmation message will appear. Click Yes.
