Introduction to Maintenance Mode

Introduction:

In Entuity, you can specify a maintenance period for a device or set of devices. Afterwards, when you then report on the device or devices, you can specify that Entuity does not report on the periods of maintenance downtime. This will not affect the availability statistics, which is useful, for example, if you have clients who have SLAs and you need to see 100% uptime in reports (e.g. user defined availabilty for network devices, firewalls and IP telephony devices) that takes into consideration scheduled maintenance downtime.

When you create a maintenance period, you can also choose to suppress events raised against those devices for the duration of the maintenance window. This means that you won't see any events on the devices under maintenance.

Devices under maintenance mode are still polled for status. It is still possible to generate reports on the underlying availability of these devices by disregarding the maintenance window.

If a device (that was scheduled for maintenance) comes out of a maintenance window with a different status to that which it had when it went in, an appropriate incident and event will be raised, e.g. if a device was up when the maintenance window opened, and is down after the maintenance window is closed, then an appropriate status change incident and event will be raised. The list of possible incidents and events that could be raised are as follows:

The features of maintenance mode are as follows:

when maintenance mode is set for a device, data is still collected.
when a report is generated, the maintenance section of time is ignored.
set and finish maintenance mode manually, or schedule it to start and finish at specific times and at repeating times.
view, create, edit and delete maintenance schedules via the Entuity UI or RESTful API.
