To create a layer 3 route rule
To delete a layer 3 route rule
Creating a Layer 3 Route rule allows you to amend discovered paths to reflect the known path of forwarded packets. This is a type of topology override rule.
To create a layer 3 route rule:
- In the Main Menu, click Administration.
- Click Path Overrides. This opens the Path Overrides page (if you are using ENA v17.0, this page is called the Application Path Discovery page).
- Under the Layer 3 Routing tab, click Add in the bottom left of the browser.
- This opens the Layer 3 Route window. Enter the display name you want to give the layer 3 route in the Name field.
- Enter a description of the route in the Description field.
- Tick the Enabled box to activate this override rule.
- Enter the numerical priority of this override rule in the Priority field - the higher the number, the higher the priority. If you have defined two override rules that are returning results, SurePath would use the override with the higher priority.
- In the Usage field, click one of the two radio buttons:
- if you want this route to only apply if SurePath cannot identify a forwarding path, click Only use this rule if no connection is found in the database.
- if you want SurePath to use this route instead of the discovered path from the device, click Use this rule to override the connection in the database. Select this option when you know the discovered path is incorrect.
- Browse for and specify the device(s) to which you will apply the layer 3 route override in the Defined for the following devices field. You can Add and Remove selected devices, and if you have added more than one device you can Exclude selected devices.
- Browse for and specify the source device context of when to apply the layer 3 route override in the Applied for the following path sources field. When the override is set, it will only apply when the selected path has this source device. You can Add and Remove selected devices, and if you have added more than one device you can Exclude selected devices.
- Browse for and specify the destination device context of when to apply the layer 3 route override in the Applied for the following path destinations field. When the override is set, it will only apply when the selected path has this destination device. You can Add and Remove selected devices, and if you have added more than one device you can Exclude selected devices.
- Enter the next hop IP address in the Next Hop IP Address field.
- Tick the Use destination IP Address as the next hop box if you want to use the destination IP address of the path as the next hop.
- Enter the next hop by the device's MAC address in the Next Hop MAC Address field. This is only necessary when the transmission is over a layer 2 technology that uses MAC addresses.
- Enter the outgoing interface in the Output Interface field.
- Click OK to save, otherwise click Cancel.
To edit a layer 3 route rule:
- Navigate to the Layer 3 Routing tab on the Path Overrides (or Application Path Discovery in ENA v17.0) page.
- Select the layer 3 route that you want to edit and click Edit in the bottom left of the browser.
- The Layer 3 Route window will open. When you have made the changes you want, click OK to save, otherwise click Cancel.
To delete a layer 3 route rule:
- Navigate to the Layer 3 Route tab on the Path Overrides (or Application Path Discovery in ENA v17.0) page.
- Select the layer 3 route that you want to delete and click Delete in the bottom left of the browser.
- A deletion confirmation window will open. Click Yes to confirm or No to cancel.
