To create a logical connection rule
To edit a logical connection rule
To delete a logical connection rule
In SurePath, you can create a direct link between interfaces on two devices, known as Logical Connections. This is a type of topology override rule.
For example, you might want to connect devices managed by different Entuity servers. This would be a unidirectional link, because you are specifying a source device and a destination device. To create a bidirectional link, you must specify two connections and reverse the source and destination devices.
Logical connection rules are intended to assist in path discovery.
To create a logical connection rule:
- In the Main Menu, click Administration.
- Click Path Overrides. This opens the Path Overrides page (if you are using ENA v17, this page is called the Application Path Discovery page).
- Go to the Logical Connections tab and click Add at the bottom of the browser.
- This will open the Logical Connection window. Enter a name for logical connection rule in the Name field.
- Enter a description of the rule in the Description field.
- Tick the Enabled box to activate this override rule.
- Enter the numerical priority of this override rule in the Priority field - the higher the number, the higher the priority. If you have defined two override rules that are returning results, SurePath would use the override with the higher priority.
- In the Usage field, click one of the two radio buttons:
- if you want this rule to only apply if SurePath cannot identify a connection between the interfaces, click Only use this rule if no connection is found in the database.
- if you want SurePath to use this rule instead of the discovered connection from the device, click Use this rule to override the connection in the database.
- Browse and specify the source device in the From Device field.
- If you have selected an IP address in the From Device field, you can enter the zone for the source device in the From Device Zone field.
- Browse and specify the interface on the source device to which you want to associate the logical connection in the From Interface field.
- Browse and specify the destination device in the To Device field.
- If you have selected an IP address in the To Device field, you can enter the zone for the destination device in the To Device Zone field.
- Browse and specify the interface on the destination device to which you want to associate the logical connection in the To Device field.
To edit a logical connection rule:
- Navigate to the Logical Connections tab on the Path Overrides (or Application Path Discovery in ENA v17.0) page.
- Select the logical connection rule that you want to edit and click Edit in the bottom left of the browser.
- The Logical Connection window will open. When you have made the changes you want, click OK to save, otherwise click Cancel.
To delete a logical connection rule:
- Navigate to the Logical Connections tab on the Path Overrides (or Application Path Discovery in ENA v17.0) page.
- Select the logical connection rule that you want to delete and click Delete in the bottom left of the browser.
- A deletion confirmation window will open. Click Yes to confirm or No to cancel.
