To create an SNMP community string or user account
Configuration details to specify when adding the asset to Entuity
Entuity supports hardware monitoring on HP BladeSystem enclosures through the HPE Onboard Administrator SNMP Agent. Entuity discovers each enclosure, its hardware components, and various environmental sensors. To do so, the Entuity collector uses port 161 (which must be open bidirectionally between the Entuity server/agent and the HPE Onboard Administrator module) and an SNMP community string or user account.
Supported devices
- HP BladeSystems
To create an SNMP community string or user account:
- Log into the HPE Onboard Administrator web interface with administrator-level credentials and navigate to Enclosure Settings > SNMP Settings.
- For SNMPv3, skip to the next step. Otherwise, for SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c, enter a read-only community string in one of the Read Community fields.
- For SNMPv3, create an SNMP user account:
- Under the SNMPv3 Users area, click New.
- Configure the user account for read-only access, and fill out the following fields, as applicable:
- Security Name
- Authentication Protocol
- Authentication Passphrase
- Privacy Protocol
- Privacy Passphrase
- Click Apply to save your changes.
Configuration details to specify when adding the asset to Entuity
When you add the enclosure to Entuity from the Asset Management page, specify the following information on the Add Asset form:
- In the Management Level section, select Server from the Asset Category drop-down field, and HP BladeSystem from the Asset Type drop-down field.
- In the Asset Details section, enter the HPE Onboard Administrator IP addresses, separated by a comma with no spaces, in the Polled Name/IP Address field.
- In the Hardware Monitoring section, select HP BladeSystem (SNMP) from the Connection Method drop-down field.
- On the Credential form (accessed by clicking the Credential field in the Hardware Monitoring section), select the appropriate SNMP version, and then enter either the newly created community string (SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c) or the newly created user account (SNMPv3) name and password in the appropriate fields.
