To create a custom event
An event tells you that something has changed or happened in your managed network. They are generated from a number of different inputs, such as polled information, SNMP Traps, and Syslog messages. Learn more about events.
Custom events are raised by other events or incidents, via their associated rules and actions. Rules can be created that raise these custom events.
To create a custom event:
- Click the Main Menu > Administration.
- On the Entuity Administration page, click Event Administration.
- Go to the Events tab and click Add. This will open the Add Custom Event window.
- Enter a Name for the event.
- Choose a Severity for the event.
- Add a Description for the event.
When you create a custom event at the same time you can create its clearing event and an associated incident.
Add clearing event | Enables you to define a clearing event and then enter its Name and Description. |
Add incident definition | Enables you to define an associated incident and then enter its Name and Description. |
Update incident details | You can control how Entuity updates the incidents as events are raised that are associated with the incident, select:
|
Ageout | Time period during which if the incident state is not updated the incident ages out and is closed. If the issue on the object recurs and Entuity raises another opening event within the set Expiry period, Entuity also re-opens the original incident. |
Expiry | Time period during which the closed incident state can be reopened if the issue on the object recurs and Entuity raises another opening event. After the expiry period if the issue on the object recurs and Entuity raises another opening event Entuity opens a new incident. |
It's possible to suppress events - preventing Entuity from raising events against managed objects. This would also impact on incidents associated with those events. Learn more about event suppression.
