You can use Entuity to manage and represent distributed network locations across branch offices. This is achieved through 3 parts:
- branch office Views
- branch office services
- branch office reports, consisting of:
You can check on branch office service status through the above reports and also via the Summary and Services dashboards.
To set up a branch office:
In Entuity, a branch office is created at the View level. It consists of a service containing a sub-service that represents the connectivity to the branch office, as well as optionally a sub-service containing any probes that are monitoring the branch office.
You should then add the components that are part of the service to the View. This is because, in Entuity, adding a service to a View does not automatically give permission to see the components of the service (so a service can be included as a summary without the user having permission to see its components).
You can create as many branch offices as you like. Each branch office must have its own dedicated View and services.
To set up a branch office:
- Create a View that represents the branch office. Entuity recommends that the name should identify the office, e.g. 'London Office'.
- Create a service within this View. This service represents the branch office. In the Advanced Settings for the service, change the Service Tag to Branch.
- Create a sub-service within this service. This sub-service must be called 'Connectivity'. This sub-service represents the connectivity to the branch office, which typically has the ports of the WAN links to the branch office.
- Add the managed objects that represent the connectivity of the branch office to the Connectivity sub-service.
- You can optionally create another sub-service underneath the top-level Branch Office service to represent the branch office's SLAs. This sub-service must be called 'SLAs' in order for you to utilize the IP SLA Details report.
- Add the IP SLA probes that represent the probes that monitor this branch office to the SLAs sub-service.
- Create a sub-service within this service. This sub-service must be called 'Connectivity'. This sub-service represents the connectivity to the branch office, which typically has the ports of the WAN links to the branch office.
The branch office reports will now be available for this View.
