To view further information about a metric displayed in the pie chart
The Pie Chart dashlet displays in a pie chart specified metrics for the selected managed object.
The Pie Chart dashlet is applicable to all managed objects on your network.
To add a Pie Chart dashlet to a custom dashboard:
- When adding a dashlet to a new custom dashboard or editing an existing custom dashboard, follow the instructions for adding a dashlet, select Pie Chart in the Select Dashlet Type, and click Next.
- The Create Dashlet form will slide in on the right.
1. Dashlet Settings
- Enter a name for your dashlet in the Name field.
- You can then choose the source of the data to be displayed in the dashlet in the Dashlet Source field. Note, the Configuration Monitor Settings dashlet can only display data where the source is a device.
- If you want this dashlet to source its data from the context of its parent dashboard, select Dashboard. You can see the context of the parent dashboard in the Dashboard Context field at the top of the form.
- If you want this dashlet to source its data from another dashlet in this current dashboard, select Dashlet.
- If you want this dashlet to source its data from a specific device on your network, select Fixed Object. You can then click Browse to an object to search for the device in Explorer, or drag into the box your desired device in from another browser window.
- Specify to which context the dashlet is applicable in the Applicable to field. Click this field to open the Applicable Context Types form, from which you can choose a context. This will default to the selection made in the Dashboard Settings form.
2. Pie Chart Data
- Group Objects of Type field. The available options here will depend upon the selection made in the Dashlet Source field (see step 3. above). This specifies the type of objects that will be displayed in the Pie Chart. For example, if you want to create a Pie Chart displaying the types of device manufacturer within a View, you will select Device from the dropdown field.
When you have selected your object type, you can select an attribute to display in the Group By field, or drag an attribute in from another tab or browser.
In the below example, we will select the Manufacturer attribute. - Specify how to get from the selection made in the Dashlet Source field to the type selected in the Group Objects of Type field in the Take Objects From field. Please see below for two examples.
- e.g. if you are looking to create a Pie Chart dashlet to display details of a particular attribute for the devices in a View (e.g. device type), then you should set the Take Objects From field to 'View Contents'.
- e.g. if the dashlet source is a 'switch device' and the group objects of type is 'port', then the Take Objects From field will by default select the 'Fully Managed Device -> Port' option.
- e.g. if you are looking to create a Pie Chart dashlet to display details of a particular attribute for the devices in a View (e.g. device type), then you should set the Take Objects From field to 'View Contents'.
3. Chart Settings
- Click the Chart Settings field to open the Chart Settings form.
- Specify whether you want to show or hide the legend on the chart with the Show Legend switch. If this is turned on, the Show Percentages switch will appear below. Turn this on to show the percentages of each category in the legend.
- Enter the maximum number of categories to be displayed on the chart in the TopN field, e.g. if you choose 3, the chart will then display the top three categories for the selected attribute and then will group the rest of the categories into 'Other'.
- Click Done in the top right of the form to save and return to the Create Dashlet form, otherwise click Cancel.
4. Advanced Settings
- Click the Advanced Settings field to open the Advanced Settings form.
- Choose whether you want to hide the title of the dashlet in the Hide Title Bar field. If selected, the dashlet's Overflow Menu will also be hidden, but in the Promote Menu Options field you can then choose if you want to display the options in the dashlet's Overflow Menu in the overall dashboard's Overflow Menu.
- Choose whether you want the dashlet to automatically refresh in the Auto Refresh field. By default this is set to On.
- From ENA v18.0 P06 upwards, you can specify a Target Object Filter for the pie chart. This will allow you to filter which objects are considered when making the counts for each slice of the pie chart.
This can be useful, for example, if you are comparing running configuration vs startup configuration - you can use the filter to specify only devices where configuration retrieval is enabled. Or you might want to create a pie dashlet filtered on the manufacturer attribute, that only applies to Cisco devices.
- Switch on the Apply Filter field and click +Add Filter.
- This will open the Add New Filter form.
Here you can specify the Filter Attribute to be filtered, either from a dropdown list or by dragging the attribute in from another tab or window.
Specify the Aggregation Method by which the filter is chosen from the dropdown list. A description of the selected method will appear beneath the field.
Then specify the Filter Type from the dropdown list and the Value applicable to the selected filter type.
Click Done to save your filter, otherwise click Cancel.
- Switch on the Apply Filter field and click +Add Filter.
- From ENA v18.0 P06 onwards, you can edit or add your own categories of the Pie Chart in the Category Overrides section. In the below example, we can see a Pie Chart that displays incident severity on the devices therein.
- The values below depict the Information, Minor, Major, Severe and Critical incident categories, together with the internal values assigned to them by Entuity. They are set out as 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 to offer you the freedom of creating new incident severities between the values, if appropriate.
If you want to add a new value, click + Add Mapping to open the Create New Category form, wherein you can specify the Value of the severity and the Category name to which it equates. - You can also see, edit and create category colors.
Click +Add Color to create a new category color.
