What is fast polling?

To enable/disable fast polling on a port

By default, Entuity polls for port utilization and status details every 5 minutes. However, you can specify ports on which Entuity should poll for utilization and/or status every 1 minute. This is through fast utilization polling and fast status polling.

Fast port polling can be useful in the following cases:

when polling key ports.
when troubleshooting problematic ports.

Fast polling is disabled by default, and you can enable it on a port-by-port basis.

Features of fast port polling:

Fast port polling is separately implemented for port utilization and port status. Therefore, e.g., you can enable fast utilization polling on a port without enabling fast status polling, or vice versa.
By default, fast polling is set at a frequency of 1 minute.
By default, Entuity restricts fast polling to 100 ports having fast utilization polling and 100 ports have fast status polling.

To enable/disable fast polling on a port:

Navigate to the port on which you want to enable fast polling, either on a dashboard or through the Explorer tree.
Right click the port to open its Context Menu.
Click Polling, and then either Fast Status Polling or Fast Utilization Polling.
Click Enable or Disable as appropriate. The Fast Status and/or Fast Util columns in the Port Summary dashlet table will be updated accordingly.

To find fast polling ports:

There are 3 ways by which you can find or identify fast polling ports:

Navigating to the Key Info dashlet of a port's Summary dashboard, which tells you if the port is fast status polling or fast utilization polling.
Navigating to the Ports (Port Summary) dashlet on a device's Ports dashboard, which tells you if any of the ports are fast status polling or fast utilization polling.
Via the Search functionality:
- Change the Type to Ports.
- Click Advanced Settings. Scroll down to the Fast utilization polling and Fast status polling fields, and select Enable as appropriate. Click Done to return to the main Search form.
- Click Begin. The search results table will populate with the ports that match your search criteria.
