To create an SNMP community string or user account
Configuration details to specify when adding the asset to Entuity
Entuity supports hardware monitoring on IBM/Lenovo systems with Integrated Management Module (IMM) II service processors and with Lenovo XClarity Controller management software installed by using SNMP GET requests. Entuity discovers the chassis, blades, processors, memory, physical disks, disk controllers, IO modules, as well as power supplies and fans, of each system. To do so, the Entuity collector uses port 161 (which must be open bidirectionally between the Entuity server/agent and the IBM/Lenovo system) and an SNMP community string or user account.
Supported devices
- Lenovo branded xSeries Servers
- IBM xSeries M4 and later Servers
- IBM iDataPlex dx360 M4 Systems
- IBM NeXtScale nx360 M4 and M5 Compute Nodes
- Lenovo ThinkSystems and ThinkServers Servers
To create an SNMP community string or user account:
- Log into the IMM web interface with administrator-level credentials.
- For SNMPv3, skip to the next step. Otherwise, for SNMPv1, create a community string:
- Navigate to IMM Management > Network, and then select the SNMP tab.
- Select the SNMPv1 checkbox.
- On the Contact tab, enter the required information (contact person and location).
- Go to the Communities tab, and enter a community string in the Community Name field.
- Set the Access type field to GET.
- Click Apply to save your changes.
- For SNMPv3, create an SNMP user account:
- Navigate to IMM Management > Users.
- Click Create User and enter the username, password, and then confirm the password for the user account.
- Navigate to the User Properties tab, click Authority and set Read-Only.
- Go to the SNMPv3 tab and set access for the account.
- Select HMAC-SHA as the authentication protocol.
Note, MD5 is not supported from the IMM. Authentication can also be disabled, if you don't want an authentication protocol to be used. - Select whether you want to use the DES or AES privacy protocol.
Auth/NoPriv is not a supported privacy protocol option. - Set the Access type field to GET, and save your changes.
- Navigate to IMM Management > Network, and then select the SNMP tab.
- Select the SNMPv3 checkbox.
- On the Contact tab, enter the required information (contact person and location).
- Click the Users tab, select the newly created user account, and click Apply to save your changes.
